There’s a good dog in every dog.

What is a Mellow Dog?

Being a Mellow Dog doesn’t mean your dog won’t be energetic. The purpose of my assistance is to help reduce unnecessary stress in our companion animals so that they can be their best selves. Learning to notice when our dogs are stressed and respond accordingly helps them to deal with that stress appropriately, and hopefully avoid behaviors that are considered problematic.

We all want our dogs to be happy and content. Yet so often the means used to achieve contentment result in the opposite, a stressed out unhappy dog, which results in stressed out, unhappy owners. My goal is to help owners understand their dog so that they can ascertain what their dog needs, meet that need, and help the dog to make different choices.

I subscribe to the Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) principles in helping with animal behavior. To do this, I am constantly learning to provide research-based assistance to my clients, while adhering to these principles.

Sessions with me may look very different from what you are expecting or have experienced in the past. I do not “train” dogs so much as help them to figure out how to decompress so they can make better choices. I do this by helping the humans in their lives help them on this journey.

Dog Mediation and Support

Ultimately, my job is to help you to help your dog. By helping you to understand what is going on inside your dog’s head, you are better able to help her to make good choices and become a more mellow dog.

“Mellow Dogs helped my Chihuahua to feel more calm around other dogs and people. Once she stopped being afraid, she stopped trying to bite.”
